About the role


Canadian Blood Services is looking for a Temporary part-time Laboratory Assistant to join our dynamic Production team in Dartmouth. The work of a Laboratory Assistant is integral to Canadian Blood Services role as Canada's Lifeline. In this role, you will be working on the frontlines, assisting in the production of blood components that provide life-saving treatments for Canadians.


Key responsibilities include:

  • Receiving, assessing and producing whole blood, apheresis platelets and plasma into requested blood components
  • Assisting the laboratory manager in the development and evaluation of procedures
  • Maintenance of appropriate documentation and records related to inventory in compliance with Canadian Blood Services operational procedures and work instructions
  • Performing routine maintenance of equipment and work areas to ensure safety and quality of blood products


Qualifications:

  • Secondary school diploma and one year of recent related experience
  • Ability to work well independently and within a team
  • Ability to communicate with internal staff and external stakeholders in an effective professional manner
  • Ability to follow instructions precisely, prepare and maintain accurate records, and carry out repetitive tasks
  • Strong time management skills and ability to prioritize and adapt
  • Ability to work a variety of shifts including days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays
