Job DescriptionThe Opportunity
Altus Group is currently hiring a Commercial Real Estate Analyst for our Halifax office. In this new role, you will be supporting two business units with key tasks that ensure effective data sharing and coordination. You will also analyze data to provide added value and greater insights by identifying gaps and collecting additional data as needed through interactions with clients.
As part of this role, we are looking for you to gain a keen sense of the real estate market in the Atlantic provinces though extensive research and site visits, track the details that you find through data entry into company databases, grow your network in the industry, and prepare key sections of appraisal reports.
Key Responsibilities:
Market Research:
Coordinate and complete a review of third-party data sources by creating and running search strategies to identify new data sources and data points
Make phone calls to update and verify information
Identify and follow relevant real estate market trends and potential/coming soon developments through multilevel data sources, including but not limited to: municipal planning announcements, industry websites and media, development applications, land transactions, news media etc.
Data Entry:
Enter real estate details (e.g., building information, availabilities, rental rates) into databases with a focus on accuracy, reviewing discrepancies and proofing entries as required
Collaborate with team members to confirm information required and assist others in the delivery of their work as needed to ensure accurate and timely data entry
Market Interaction:
Develop industry contacts to facilitate sharing information. This includes attending industry networking events (brokers, managers, landlords, owners, assessment authorities etc.) and identifying current or past contacts that can provide new/additional data and verify existing records (internal & external)
Appropriately respond to clients' needs, questions, and/or concerns in regards to system use and or published records; escalate as needed to senior staff
Report Production:
Prepare initial qualitative analysis for sections of appraisal reports including the SWOT analysis, location overview, market overview, etc.
Prepare PowerPoint decks to present various information under direction from senior staff
Site Visits:
Prepare for site visits by planning optimal route and preparing records, documents and/or questions
Visit sales centres and project sites to collect and verify project data, recording site details (i.e. product type, location address, construction status, parking notes etc.) and taking photographs that meet product quality standards
Position Requirements:
Post-secondary education is an asset
Experience in commercial real estate is an asset
Must have a valid driver's license and clean driver's abstract
Proficient in MS Office with an emphasis on Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Knowledge and ability to use systems and databases
Strong attention to detail to collect, understand, verify and compile records according to data governance standards
Knowledge of correct spelling, grammar and punctuation in the English language
Ability to prioritize workload in a fast-paced environment while efficiently completing work assignments and meeting deadlines
Adept skills in data collection, data interpretation, and compiling information: knows where data resides in the system and how data entries and changes may impact data in other parts of the system
Confident to make phone calls to new contacts to retrieve property/project information
