Job Summary The Faculty of Dentistry promotes and provides oral health care as an integral component of overall health for regional, national and international communities through quality education, research and service. Reporting to the Manager of Clinical Services, the Technician is responsible to perform various duties including cleaning, disinfection, storage, packaging and sterilization in accordance with Canadian standards.
Key Responsibilities
- Complete all phases of Dental Clinic sterilization process including: collection, sorting, washing, assembling, packaging, wrapping, sterilizing, and distribution. Complete testing procedures to ensure proper operation of sterilization equipment.
- Transport all contaminated items to the Medical Device Reprocessing (MDR) area, clean, check and wrap items for sterilization.
- Regularly clean work areas and equipment including sterilizing units and maintain daily operational logs and records.
- Safely handle sterile and non-sterile instruments ensuring infection control for patients, students, staff and faculty, and protect against cross-contamination.
- Ensure the status of supplies including asepsis, expiry dates, are stored appropriately and maintain adequate inventory levels.
- Provide customer service to students and faculty dispensing and receiving dental instruments and equipment. Staff are required to have a general knowledge of the supplies and equipment in order to provide support to the students.
- Participate in orientation process and training sessions on procedures and operation of MDR unit for staff, dental and dental hygiene students.
Note Due to operational requirements, the successful applicant is required to work in-person on campus.

Qualifications Technical training required, such as a Registered Central Service Technician (Purdue University Correspondence Course, or equivalent) required, along with one to three years' experience in a clinic or hospital environment and/or related experience in the dental or medical field. Ability to work both independently and as a member of a team is essential. Organizational skills are essential, as well as the ability to multi-task and set priorities.
The successful candidate must provide proof of up-to-date immunization for the following: Tetanus, Diphtheria, Polio, Measles, Mumps, Rubella, Chicken Pox and Hepatitis B. A copy of the lab report for Hepatitis B surface antibodies must be provided along with evidence of the 2 Step Mantoux (Tuberculin) test. Annual Influenza inoculation is recommended. The successful candidate must keep their immunization status current during their employment.
