Mara currently has an opening for an Industrial Fermentation and Downstream Processing Specialist. Reporting to the Director of R&D, this position will manage pilot plant operations, including the scaling-up and scaling-down processes from bench top scale to full industrial scale.
Key Responsibilities:
- General management of pilot plant operations as an independent group serving R&D and scale-up stakeholders for scaling-up and scaling down processes.
- Provide training on fermentation piloting and on scaling-up to industrial processes.
- Interact with production sites and CMOs both for technology transfer and for scale-up and scale-down related problems.
- Maintain the pilot plant and its utilities in proper working order.
- Ensure pilot plant and its process documentation (SOPs, batch records, logbooks) are always current.
- Implement a cGMP-like operation.
- Growth of pilot plant capabilities.
- Research, develop and optimize bioprocessing techniques for improved production yields, chemical properties, cost efficiency, product quality.
- Participate in the identification of new manufacturing equipment required for the launching of new products.
Required Qualifications:
- Background in chemical engineering, process engineering and biologic engineering.
- Extensive hands-on experience in scaling-up fermentation processes to full commercial scale.
- Good knowledge of cGMP operations and documentation.
- Knowledge of engineering design of fermentation plants.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience interacting with CMOs.
